Westminster Presbyterian Youth Director Position, San Jose, CA
Located on The Alameda at the border between downtown San Jose and the Greater Rose Garden, Westminster Presbyterian Church has a long history of neighborliness and service to community. We are a church where all people are welcomed, respected, and unified by our devotion to Jesus Christ. As the Youth Director you will work closely with the Senior Pastor to ensure an active and energetic youth program that is attractive to the youth that are already here and those in the community.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Youth Director is accountable to the Session through the Personnel Committee and Christian Education Committee and reports to the Head of Staff.
EVALUATION
Meet annually with Personnel Committee to assess year's program.
As Youth Director you will have sole use of the Church Apartment (which include a sitting room, 1 bedroom, full bath and kitchen), a $350 stipend and a cell phone.
BACKGROUND
Education
- Must have completed high school
- Two years of college or equivalent work experience
- Red Cross First-Aid and CPR Training (the church will provide for if the candidate does not have.)
- Experience with children’s programs in a Christian setting
- Provide reference from a pastor or seminary concerning character
- Provide reference concerning teaching and administrative abilities
- Willingness to work with kids with special needs
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration
- Ensure that key program dates are in place early enough for families to plan around them.
- Provide advance notice of activities and events.
- Maintain regular communication with parents, staff, Pastor.
- Attend staff meetings as required by Pastor.
- Find volunteer leaders to assist in the youth program.
- Attend “Safe Church” training every 3 years or as often as the Pastor requires.
- Minister to the youth by recognizing special days and developing a positive relationship with them. This may include going to sporting event, school plays, etc. (The church will reimburse for the cost of the ticket as well as mileage to and from the event at the IRS rate).
- Create a weekly youth program.
- Develop a youth Leadership counsel.
- Unless otherwise participating in the service to sit with the youth during worship and discuss what is happening in the service.
- Order supplies as budget allows.
- Communicate and coordinate schedules with pastor and choir director for youth Sunday.
- Follow up regularly with visiting families and maintain a database of youth who visit.
